Failure to give way at intersections

Failure to give way at intersections is one of the largest causes of death and injuries on New Zealand roads, after driving at excessive speed and drink-driving. This campaign aims to link people's risk taking behaviour at intersections with the potential serious consequences of their actions.

Each year around 2500 crashes occur at intersections because someone failed to stop or give way.

The calculated risks that drivers take at intersections seem relatively inconsequential, e.g. nipping into small gaps. Many drivers have experienced close calls or near misses when driving through an intersection but feel they always get away with it. Other drivers haven't been so lucky.
